Some thoughts on “Arrow Artists” in “God’s quiver” (during prayer time, Susan Farrow Milner, May 22, 2012)

Recent Work

    1. Art as an Arrow

Think of art as an “arrow” that hits the mark. Clear, effective and only the vision that the Lord has imparted (often through prayer and worship). Then it will hit the mark as God is the one sending it out.

    Hab.2:1-2

“I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart and watch to see what He will say to me…

Then the Lord answered me and said,

“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets that he may run who reads it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak and it will not lie.

Though it tarries wait for it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

    2. God creating His image in us as we create through Him

When Christ fills us it is His creativity that flows through our veins. Creativity is not a thing on its own. It is Christ’s creative nature, His very own inventive self that floods our soul and transforms us as we paint. So as we paint what He gives, at the same time He is painting, sculpting us into His image. The transformation of us and our paper/canvas simultaneously is the amazing thing. We want God’s signature to be all over us.

The world does not see, nor know the process. It only sees the result (the painting) and wonders ‘how?’

We are God’s lighted airbrush, His laser beam (His arrow). The art is an arrow only because it is an extension of us, and we an extension of Christ. If Truth (Christ himself) is in us it will cut through the darkness. If Love (Christ himself) is in us it will draw others to the real God through the art.

    3. Prayer and the releasing of the vision.

Daniel prayed from Babylon for the restoration of God’s people. My bible commentary puts it this way “..it is a matter of releasing that restoration that God has already purposed”. Pray for both visions and a humble heart. God awaits our prayer to release His pre-ordained purpose, His blueprint, His plan for our nation. The pre-ordained artworks are so crucial for establishing His kingdom.

    4. Art at the Gate

Psalm 127:4 “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed but shall speak with their enemies at the gate”.

Our children are the paintings we birth, we create. God wants us to be fruitful, to create many artworks. The paintings shall “speak” the vision “at the gate”. Just as the children who stand in the gap at the entrance of the city preventing the enemy from invading, so our paintings prevent the enemy from invading minds and hearts of people, by directing thoughts visually to the good, the godly and the relevant for our time.

    5. The importance of the “Eye Gate”  (the body’s opening to the soul).

    Seeing ————- leads to

    Imagining ——— leads to

    Action ————- leads to

    Habits ————- leads to

Character ——–and  character in part produces our destiny.

    6. Arrows that fight against injustice and wickedness.

Read Habakkuk chapter 3. Notice the Lord’s arrows.

v.3,4 “God came …….. the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of His praise. His brightness was like the light. He had rays flashing from His hand, and there His power was hidden ……. “. (This is one of the references for the painting I did of God’s hand holding the arrows of art brushes, in his Hand ready to be shot out).

v.8,9  “ O Lord …. was your wrath against the sea, that You rode on Your horses, Your chariots of salvation? Your bow was made quite ready, oaths were sworn over Your arrows”. (My commentary says “arrows” here literally mean tribes or rods).

v.11 “the sun and the moon stood still in their habitation. At the light of Your arrows they went, at the shining of Your glittering spear”. (I envision the glittering spear as silver).

v.12 “You marched through the land in indignation …. “

v.13 “You went forth for the salvation of Your people, for the salvation of Your anointed You struck the head of the wicked …. “

It was so good to hear from all of you and to know you are gathering together. Keeping our minds sharp in this hour takes persistent effort (at least for me).The Lord will get us ready as iron sharpens iron together. So many have fallen asleep, praise God you have not. I am joining you in praying for the arrow art to break forth and to break through. I’m  believing with you, all things are possible with God!

    Blessings and love,

    Susan
